Interim Chief Risk Officer

The client:Case-Study_Interim-Chief-Risk-Officer

Watermark’s interim business was approached by a Queensland based public company listed on the ASX that provides industrial services and management to customers across Australia and New Zealand, with niche operations in parts of Asia.

The brief:

Having conducted a successful full executive search for a Chief Risk Officer, they needed an Interim Chief Risk Officer to manage the role whilst their new permanent placement worked through his six months notice period with his current employer. There was a requirement for a senior, seasoned executive to step in to the breach and manage the team for six months, whilst adding value by undertaking regulatory requirements and ensuring all auditing requirements were fulfilled. An experienced interim manager was the obvious solution as they would be able to “hit the ground running”, provide immediate leadership and bring a set of specialist skills that the organization did not currently have in-house.

Watermark’s solution:

The brief was given to Watermark Interim and the client’s need was urgent. Within 24 hours Watermark Interim had identified three potential candidates, all available for an immediate interview and start.  The successful candidate had just completed a permanent role for ten years with an ASX listed business in a very similar industry sector. He met all of the key criteria in terms of functional expertise. He was interviewed within 48 hours of us receiving the brief and he was placed and working in the business within 5 working days.

The outcome:

The interim manager stepped into the role and started to add value from day one. Risk and regulation requirements were managed and he proved a wise counsel and mentor to a more junior team.  He was highly respected and well regarded by the Senior Executive Team, Chairman and other Board members. The assignment was completed successfully. He was highly valued in terms of his pragmatic and mature approach and was able to slot into the senior team seamlessly.
