Interim Head of PMO

case-study-ipad-report-400x250The client:

An electricity state owned enterprise was looking to better manage and organise their major capital projects division, a division with a budget of c.$650m.

The brief:

We were tasked to find an executive leader with broad commercial skills and demonstrable experience of setting up and running effective PMOs. The interim would assess the capabilities of other staff and recruit if necessary. In addition, they would manage a finance function and small facilities team.

Watermark’s solution:

We provided the client with a shortlist of 4 interims that fit the brief. The successful interim had an impressive track record of running large capital programs in both the public and private sectors, he had been part of senior management teams in permanent roles and provided strategic consultancy to a range of clients. He took absolute responsibility for the delivery of the PMO and senior stakeholder management and began a review and assessment of existing staff. Due to the breadth of his experience he was also given managerial oversight for the finance function and a facilities team.

The outcome:

PMO established by an expert and project overruns reduced by 27%.
