A foreign multinational engineering company was seeking a Divisional CFO to lead the finances of one of its largest Australian based-divisions with revenue in excess of $500m.

The brief:

We were required to adopt a brief with the following parameters: find candidates that had focused on traditional financial experience, rather than commercial finance; they should also be experienced in formal bid & tender processes; they should be experienced in project review, work-in-progress, cost-to-complete; and, they should be possessed of an intellect and manner that engages peer leaders and support eventual progression towards Finance Director.

Watermark’s solution:

Watermark conducted a national Executive Search.  From a target pool of over 100 target candidates we eventually profiled 43 in detail.  This was all achieved in complete confidence.  We provided the client with a long-list of 10 individuals to consider, eventually resulting in a 5 person shortlist.  Watermark provided support services to the client that resulted in an appointment being ratified less than three months after the Executive Search commenced.

The outcome:

The new Divisional CFO has successfully on-boarded, quickly gaining traction with Divisional and Regional Executive leadership.  Our last conversation with the client indicated the placed candidate is already considered key potential for relocation offshore within the next two years.
