home-page_image_auditor-general-tasmaniaThe Tasmanian Auditor-General is a Statutory Office and person appointed by the Governor under the Audit Act 2008. The Auditor-General’s primary role is to provide impartial and independent scrutiny of government practices. The Auditor-General informs Parliament about the performance of executive government in order for Parliament to hold government to account through the findings and recommendations of financial and performance audits and special reviews of resource management and service delivery by the public sector, inclusive of local government.

Following the retirement of the current incumbent, the Tasmanian Government is seeking to appoint a new Auditor-General to lead the Tasmanian Audit Office, an office of strong reputation and standing. This important role will be accountable for leading the strategic direction and operation of the Office, to ensure its statutory obligations are fully met. Critical facets of the role include determination of the annual audit and reporting plan, overseeing implementation of audit programs across the whole of government, risk assessment of government agencies, and management of the financial, technology and human resources of the Office. The Auditor-General will have high level interface with Parliament and manage a complex set of stakeholders across government.

The role requires an inspiring, engaging and credible leader with a strategic focus and a history of building high performing teams, supported by strong capabilities in strategic analysis, influencing and communication, and stakeholder management. A proven record of building productive working relationships across government, driving change and delivering strong outcomes in an environment of complexity, ambiguity and scrutiny is critical. Professional qualifications at the level of Chartered Accountant or Certified Practising Accountant is considered essential.
