The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) contributes to Australia’s economic prosperity through its work as the Australian Government’s international trade and investment promotion agency, and by working to strengthen Australia’s tourism sector. The organisation operates through a global network of offices, with representatives in over 80 overseas locations assisting Australian businesses, tourism operators, education institutions, governments and citizens to:

  • develop international markets
  • strengthen Australia’s tourism industry, including through policy advocacy and development
  • win productive foreign direct investment
  • seek consular and passport services

Reporting directly to the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, this is an exceptional opportunity for a new Chief Executive to further strengthen Austrade’s strategic operations to deliver trade, investment and international education and training programs, help strengthen Australia’s tourism industry, and provide advice to the Australian Government. This is an exciting time to further raise the organisation’s profile and lead its response to the changing dynamics of international trade and investment markets.

You will need to demonstrate the highest level of leadership and strategic skills, ideally gained in a large-scale international organisation, combined with a strong understanding of the commercial issues and imperatives facing Australian businesses, and organisations operating in the international market. You will need to understand the needs of international customers and investors, and bring a strong grasp of the needs of the tourism sector.

We are seeking an individual with an outstanding record of achievement in strategic management, exceptional stakeholder leadership and executive engagement capabilities, with the proven capacity to represent the organisation at the highest levels and the ability to advise and collaborate with government and industry. The successful candidate should have the credibility to contribute substantially to national trade and investment promotion.

The position is a statutory appointment for a period of up to five years and the successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 2 security clearance. Candidates must be Australian citizens.
