The Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST) is Australia’s leading representative body for the $700 billion profit-to-member superannuation industry. It supports its members through advocacy, policy development, governance, research, events and education.

The AIST is looking to appoint a CEO who will lead, inspire and advocate not only for the organisation’s members, but also for the broader sector. The CEO will be instrumental in maintaining and building on the AIST’s place as a pre-eminent representative body in the superannuation sector.

The CEO will act as the AIST’s spokesperson for superannuation and related issues with the media, government and other stakeholders. The CEO needs to ensure that the focus of the organisation remains in assisting the members deliver improved retirement outcomes for fund members through the provision of world-class insights and levels of service. One of the AIST’s primary roles is to provide advice and lead its members in continually improving their education and application of ‘gold standard’ levels of corporate governance.

The role demands a high degree of enthusiasm, confidence and resilience in dealing with the diversity and complexity of an exciting and continually developing industry. The successful candidate will have superior influencing and engagement skills as well as being confident and compelling in front of the AIST’s key stakeholders. The CEO will also be able to engage the members, as well as other industry bodies, in ensuring the profit-for-member superannuation sector continues to deliver superior retirement outcomes for members.

A strong affiliation with the not for profit culture and an understanding of the superannuation sector, along with government legislation and regulatory requirements affecting the superannuation industry, would be highly advantageous. If the CEO has a good understanding of pension systems and the regulatory environment in other countries that will be well regarded. Frequent travel will be required to properly engage with the AIST’s stakeholders.
