The Client:
An Australian-based, ASX listed, global, ship building company and defence prime contractor. They briefed us on a requirement for an Interim Chief People Officer due to the resignation of the incumbent. Watermark were retained to undertake both the Interim and Permanent search for this role.
The Brief:
The client required an experienced Chief People Officer used to working in close alignment with the board within an ASX listed entity of this size. As a key member of the executive, the Interim Executive was required and was prioritised to help design and implement operational strategic objectives and ASX remuneration reporting. Strong relationship skills, gravitas and emotional intelligence were all critical to success.
The Solution:
Watermark identified a shortlist of proven, focused, immediately available Chief People Officer candidates who had a strong track record in this skill set. We placed the preferred Interim Chief People Officer and she undertook a 6 month assignment, whilst the Watermark Search team completed a thorough search for the permanent role.
The Interim's Contribution:
The Interim Chief People Officer was able to ‘hit the ground running’ as she had held a very similar role for an ASX listed, global business of a similar size. She was able to demonstrate immediately her strong leadership skills, the ability to build excellent stakeholder relationships and gain the trust of the team quickly. She worked with the board and worked closely with and reported to the People, Remuneration & Culture Committee and Sustainability Committee. She was able to provide extensive ASX remuneration reporting, executive remuneration, incentive scheme design, year-end HR processes from a global perspective having already led large global HR functions. She had experience with numerous systems implementations, significant experience coordinating large budget processes and was commercially savvy, working with the CEO and executive team to drive business strategy.
