Webinar - Creating Sustainable Productivity in the Future of Work

What a way to finish the Watermark webinar masterclass series for 2024! Watermark hosted an insightful and engaging webinar featuring Alison Hernandez, Asia Pacific Lead for HSM Advisory and Co-founder and Director of ReCreate100. Alison brought her extensive experience and expertise to the table, sharing key themes and predictions drawn from 15 years of Future of Work research by HSM Advisory and Professor Lynda Gratton.

Alison delved into the major macrotends of the Future of Work, including:

  • Longevity and Demography

  • Globalisation

  • Technology

  • Environmental

  • Society

One of the highlights of Alison’s talk was the model transitioning from a traditional three-stage life (education, work, retirement) to a multistage life. This new model reflects the evolving nature of careers and personal development, emphasising flexibility and continuous learning.

Despite the rapid changes over the past 15 years, Alison emphasised that certain human elements remain at the core of work. These include the need for connection, purpose, and wellbeing. She highlighted how these elements are crucial for sustainable productivity.

Looking ahead, Alison painted a picture of the workplace in 2025, focusing on:

  • Skills as Building Blocks: The importance of continuous skill development.

  • Human-Centric Approach: Keeping the human element at the centre of work.

  • Redefining Productivity: Moving towards “sustainable high performance” rather than just working harder.

Alison introduced “hot off the press” research on productivity, redefining it as “sustainable high performance.” She discussed the challenges and pain points around productivity, the importance of measuring it accurately, and the development of a productivity diagnostic. Alison also shared case studies from major companies demonstrating how they are successfully increasing productivity.

A key takeaway from Alison’s presentation was the importance of futureproofing yourself. She stressed the need to lock in time for personal development and fiercely protect that time. This proactive approach is essential for staying relevant and resilient in a rapidly changing work environment.

Watermark’s webinar with Alison Hernandez was a deep dive into the future of work, offering practical advice and forward-thinking strategies. Alison’s expertise and the latest research from HSM Advisory provided attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the trends shaping our work lives and how to thrive amidst these changes.
