About the role

As the Branch Manager Psychosocial & Specialised Pathways, you have the unique opportunity to directly shape a newly created branch in the Service Design and Improvement Group, supporting one of the largest cohorts within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Reporting to the General Manager Policy, Evidence and Practice Leadership Division, the Branch Manager Psychosocial & Specialised Pathways will play a critical role in building a high-performing team responsible for advice, design and execution of a critical program of work which will be overseen by a time limited taskforce, directly influencing the overall participant experience for thousands of Australians.

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Lead on a program of work in close collaboration with other Government agencies and service providers that will lead to better integrated care and support between clinical and disability supports for participants.

  • Lead on the development of an early intervention pathway for the agency that will see better outcomes for participants including improvements in their independence.

  • Lead the agency’s response to areas of Psychosocial Disability and for other specific cohorts that require a specialised pathway. This includes participants with complex needs where there is a close interface with mainstream service systems scheme as Health, Mental Health and Justice.

  • Interpret and translate key Government and intergovernmental agreements into NDIA policy to support implementation.

  • Provide thought leadership, content expertise and advice, and rigorous policy analysis towards the management of key strategic issues to improve the effectiveness of the NDIS.

  • Develop strong partnerships working with the Commonwealth on whole of Government priorities, and strategic engagement externally with key peaks and sector organisations.

  • Lead and engage with a diverse set of external stakeholders using multiple approaches, including co-design.

The role is a functional and strategic leadership position within the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) that leads highly complex work programs that have strategic operational significance across the organization.

About you

You are a forward-thinking leader with a proven ability to drive policy reform in complex and evolving environments. With a deep commitment to social change, you bring a solutions-focused mindset and a strong sense of purpose to your work, ensuring people with disability have greater choice and control over their lives.

Your experience covers large scale reform projects within disability, mental health, education, justice or social service sectors, preferably in a government, large healthcare service provider or consultancy setting. You have successfully led initiatives in high pressure environments, delivering outcomes in the face of complexity and change.

Operating as a trusted internal advisor and skilled communicator, you build and maintain strong relationships at all levels. Your ability to influence, negotiate, and drive consensus enables you to navigate organisational challenges with authority, while fostering collaboration and shared purpose among your team and stakeholders.

You thrive in dynamic settings, able to balance strategic oversite with operational demands. Decisive yet diplomatic, you anticipate future challenges, proactively address risks, and use your subject matter expertise to drive effective decision-making.

About the NDIA

The NDIA’s role is to implement the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which will support a better life for hundreds of thousands of Australians with a significant and permanent disability and their families and carers.

What you should know

To be eligible for employment with the NDIA, you must be an Australian citizen. A candidate’s suitability for employment with the Agency will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This will include a criminal history check and the ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance, at the Negative Vetting 1 level. This will be arranged for you, if successful.
